On Sunday, April 27th, former NFL Players, country music up and comer, Frank Ray, local TV & radio personalities joined forces with one goal in mind, helping bring awareness to their various charities. One of those charities stole the show as the WI Humane Society brought along some of their available dogs for adoption. (Update: All dogs from the game have been adopted!) Other charities being represented were: FRay (Frank Ray) DASH (Bonnie Blair) Team One Mile (Don Davey) and quite a few others. The game hosted approximately 750 fans in it's 1st ever event and concluded draft activities for many in the area that weekend.
Event Organizers Mike Lovelace and Melissa Tompkins with Gridiron Football - Green Bay said overall the event went well. "We weren't sure what to expect. For the most part, we thought having a huge event like the Draft would be a huge boost, when in reality, it may have slowed some numbers and resources for the event. I think by Sunday, some people were all footballed out or tapped out for resources due to the man hours involved with covering an event of that size and area," Lovelace said.
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises from the game was it's MVP, Ike Wynter, a Milwaukee wood artist, who made headlines for providing all of the team logos carved out of wood that you may have seen in the tunnel when prospects made their way to the draft stage. " We were so busy with all of the different events going on around the draft that we were a part of, my phone rang, and it was Natalie from WIXX saying, Hey, I'm bringing my friend tomorrow who is the wood artist to play, he's gonna be awesome. I just said yah sure. The morning of the game, I walked into the locker room and saw this random dude walking around, I had no clue, but clearly he can ball!" Lovelace continued. Part of me wishes we had kept Jarret Bush, another last minute addition, for ourselves on Team Gridiron. We didn't really consider age and talent level, just wanted equal player numbers for each side, my bad. Team Green Bay may have had a better, younger, and more athletic roster, but it's ok, I'll let them have this feeling for the next year. "
There's no immediate word on a date or location for next year, right now, they just want to focus on the rest of their spring flag season which is running now and then the fall season which will start sometime in September. "It's a lot and right now we're just trying to learn how to breathe again. We've been so consumed by the event and the other activities that right now, it's just nice to only have football obligations on Saturdays and not worrying about flights, hotels, transportation, events, and other things. Tompkins said. Oh yah, and we have a wedding coming up this summer, too.
